Spring is here! Sunshine, pretty blooms, and general new growth; including a renewal of my knitting mojo! I guess all it really took was casting on a new project...

In all seriousness, though, I have been rather stuck the past few months in terms of my motivation to knit; in all likelihood, this was exacerbated by my worry over the math in my ongoing pattern designs. But this month, after receiving some new yarn, I finally picked up the needles and found myself once again truly enjoying the process.

The Brough Shawl by Donna Smith - 3 skeins (852 yds, 345 g) Ecowash Sport/DK in "Uncertain Times" by Ocean Park Yarns - This massive shlanket is finally finished, after being on the needles since December! I had to make some modifications due to a yardage miscalculation (proof that my math is bad!) but it is still MASSIVE and so so cozy. I am in love with it and will be posting finished photos to Instagram once it's finished blocking.

Hereford Bull Cardigan by Mary Maxim - Hue + Me in "Desert" byTwo of Wands X LionBrand, Alpaca Blend in "Sable" and "Yam" by (held double) Patons, Lincoln Fog in "Mother of Pearl" (held double) by Patons - This is my big commission of the month (or, next couple months, if you want to be realistic)! It has yet to be revealed in full on Instagram, so you're getting a sneak peek by reading the blog. My mum found a photo of this cardigan in a magazine and asked me if I could track it down; after reaching out for help from a knitting group on Facebook, I found it -- and my mum is so happy! We spent a long time deciding on the perfect, budget-friendly yarns, and I think we ended up with some great colours. I'm doing some slight modifications, so keep your eyes here if you're interested!

I've also been doing a bit more weaving, however it is a gift and has not been received at the time of writing this post -- so if you want an update on my weavings, go ahead and follow me on Instagram!

My reading slowed down a bit in April, probably due to my renewed knitting spirit, but I still managed to work through 3 books!

ree

Last Night at the Telegraph Club by Malinda Lo - A new YA release which I requested for purchase through my library, Last Night at the Telegraph Club is an engaging coming-of-age novel about a young Chinese-American girl exploring her sexuality in the 1950s. If I'm being honest, I wasn't expecting to enjoy this book as much as I did; Lo's writing is simple yet draws you in, and I was definitely emotionally attached to the main characters.

Dogs at the Perimeter by Madeleine Thien - You may remember I had started this book back in January, but had to put it down in order to get through some library books before they had to go back. I finally picked it back up and finished it. The story is rather heartbreaking, dealing with loss, diasporas, and trauma.

Mrs Dalloway by Virginia Woolf - My dear friend Nour -- who is also a blogger and bookstagrammer -- absolutely loves Woolf, and yet I had never actually read any of her novels (despite Mrs Dalloway being assigned reading in one of my uni courses... oops). Although I love Woolf's descriptive writing, I wasn't the biggest fan of the stream-of-consciousness style; I found myself more easily distracted or retreating into my own thoughts. I would definitely try another of Woolf's novels though; perhaps A Room of One's Own will be next...

And that's it for April! A short and sweet recap this time; if you want more frequent updates, be sure to follow along on Instagram and Ravelry, and follow my reading process on Goodreads!
