I'm a little (okay maybe a lot) late with this monthly recap, so I'll keep things short and sweet and dive right in!

The Aveiro Sweater by Orlane Sucche -- I started this relaxed, stripey sweater right at the end of July, using some gorgeous hibiscus-pink yarn that I had stashed for ages. I originally intended to use a pastel, butter-yellow yarn for the contrast stripes but decided that it was a liiiiittle outside my comfort zone. Instead, I brought in this gorgeous tonal, Golden North, from Rainbow Heirloom, which I bought at the Edinburgh Yarn Festival way back in March. I love the subtly shifts in the colour, from glimmering honey to deep bronze. I got the bulk of this sweater done throughout August, with only the ribbed borders and sleeve island to go! I'm hoping to get it done by the end of September so I can show it off at Knit City.

Spray Lake Socks by Nicole Bracey -- yes, these socks are still a work in progress! Unfortunately midway through August I snapped the delicate bamboo miniature circular needles I was using, so this project got relegated to the HO (half-object) box until I could replace them. But we're back at it with shiny new metal circulars, hooray!

August wasn't a big knitting month for me (as you can probably tell) because I got back into sewing and powered through some big projects! I started off with a wrap dress and a sweet babydoll, the Demeter Dress, which you can read about in this post.

I loved the Demeter Dress so much that I immediately set out to the fabric store and stocked up on some gorgeous fabrics to make more. First up was a lemon-yellow striped linen version for my gorgeous mum. She had tried on the dress I had made for myself and liked the closer fit of it, so I made her dress in the same size. It fits her perfectly!

I also picked up a cute tropical leaf print fabric to make a cute little crop top, the pattern for which is included in the Demeter pattern packet. While the second-smallest size is the recommended size for me, I opted to go for the smallest size to achieve a closer, more retro fit, and I even cropped it about an inch shorter than the original pattern to emphasize it's '60s feel. I am in love with it!

August was also a slow month for reading! After finishing up the wonderful, intense non-fiction A Mind Spread Out on the Ground by Alicia Elliott, I decided to reach for a comfort read... and who else to reach for but one of my favourite authors, Jane Austen? Mansfield Park, Austen's third-published novel, was the perfect choice to end a busy summer with. The story took a meandering, though highly enjoyable pace, allowing me to connect with the characters and delve into my imagination to fully envision the setting.

After Austen's fictional tale, I opted to reach for yet another non-fiction book, this time a biography: Child of Light: Mary Shelley by Muriel Spark. I figured catching up on the life of the "spooky goth queen" (as she has sometimes been dubbed here on the internet) would be a perfect way to transition into fall, and easy to pick up and put down again amidst the looming reading deadlines of university classes. So far it's very interesting and enjoyable, and the perfect book to keep at my bedside.

With classes in full swing throughout the autumn months, there may be fewer knitting updates in these monthly roundups... that said, I do tend to reach for my knitting any time I end up in a procrastinating mood, so I suppose we'll see how this semester plays out!

As always, you can follow along with my knitting updates on Instagram and Ravelry, and follow my reading process on Goodreads!
